The Ego VS. The Bridge — Which one do you pick up on the side of the road?
The Ego and The Bridge are two factors that will come into play at some point during your professional life. The question is: when they appear at the same time...head to head...which one do you choose?
The Ego represents YOU. It's your values, morals, undeniable talents, nuances, idiocracies, and the somewhat bad habits that come along with being you. The Ego is your self-esteem. The Ego is your importance in this life.
The Bridge represents how you got there and where you're going. The Bridge represents the people and opportunities that assisted you to get to where you are today. In some cases, The Bridge is the reason you are who you are, and where you are right now.
Let's say The Bridge and The Ego both need a ride, but your car is a two-seater, and you can only pick up one. Does The Ego get a lift or do you pick up The Bridge?
On one hand, The Ego represents who you are, and what you stand for. On the other hand, if it wasn't for The Bridge, you might not have a clue what you stand for because, without the opportunities that The Bridge gave you, you would be clueless.
Picking up The Bridge takes humility, introspection, and open-mindedness. While picking up The Ego takes balls, hutzpa, and self-confidence.
When it's all said and done, the only person that has to live with the decision is YOU. What are you willing to sacrifice? What's worth losing because of what you stand for? The choice is yours, choose wisely.
